Winter is a wonderful time. The nights draw in and the calendar skips from one celebration to the next. However, the winter also brings short days, long nights and extremely low temperatures. All of these factors make working on outside projects all that more difficult. The combination of biting winds, sudden rain showers and unannounced hailstorms can make outdoor building commitments more difficult and dangerous, even if you do have all the right gear.
Of course, this is most likely not news to anyone who works in the industry. But, as we leave the summer nights behind us, winter provides excellent business opportunity for builders and joiners to promote indoor projects.
With this in mind, we’ve provided you with some ideas for great indoor projects likely to be wanted by your customers this winter.
Erecting an interior wall to split a larger room into two smaller ones, is not a project most DIY home improvers are eager to take on themselves, and therefore a great service to provide to your customers. Commercial landlords in towns and cities with a large student population are regularly looking to convert three bedroom properties into a four bedroom student house. Snows Timber can provide you with everything you need to get those walls up in no time. From solid timber to erect the walls to our new range, Aquapanel. Being made of mould and mildew-resistant materials, these boards will not break down even when submerged in water.
These board panels host a number of benefits such as being made of mould and mildew-resistant inorganic materials and will not break down even when submerged in water. The robustness of these walls also mean they can hold up to 50kg per square metre. Cladding and flooring
Cladding and flooring materials are perfect for those indoor jobs. In particular, Hardwood floors remain continuously popular in the UK and with a choice of treated and untreated materials to choose from. Your customers will enjoy the sense of warmth and elegance they offer to any room, especially now in the run up to Christmas when internal design becomes more of a priority.
Likewise, interior cladding or panelling has seen a comeback in recent years. At Snows, we supply shiplap and loglap cladding, as well as tongue and groove. This allows for quick installation in any home and produces a neat, attractive effect, whatever size the wall that needs to be clad.
A popular material choice is Cedral, or cement fibre cladding. Although typically used outdoor as it is naturally resistant to rot even under continuous bad weather, it is finding its way into homes as an alternative to wood panelling. Additionally, this product is super easy to slot together and can come in a number of different finishes, to suit the requirements of individual customers. And what’s more, it’s energy efficient, being a fine source of noise and heat insulation and it’s easy to recycle!
Skirting boards and architraves
With the new wall erected and the old ones appropriately clad, it’s time to turn to skirting boards and architraves, to give them both that desirable finished look.
At Snows, we offer a range of skirting profiles, all in a variety of different materials and design options depending on your wants and needs. Redwood skirting boards produce a beautiful finish, as well as sturdy American Oak, which is purchased in compliance with European Timber Regulation as part of our Sustainable Woods Policy. Alternatively, for a cheaper but still just as attractive option, we also have MDF versions available. If your customers are looking for light but sturdy and easily painted, then this is the best route.
Our interior mouldings are specially designed to be as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing. The range we offer run across classical lines, ideally suited to any household or office interior and made from unsorted European redwood, which gives a beautiful finish, even when untreated. Because of this, our extensive range of picture rails, handrails, dado rails, and doorsteps have a timeless quality to them. They can also be measured and cut to order, ready for you install for your customers.
Windows can often take a beating during the harsh cold weather which is brought by winter. With that in mind, it’s a perfect time to pay attention to those interior window sills. We have a number of window boards on offer at Snows Timber, made from both primed MDF board or a softwood variety. The boards are easy to install and come ready to paint, making it a fuss-free option for your customers.
And in relation, we also supply glazing beads for windows from the same unsorted redwood, enabling a matching effect around glass doors and window panes. Glazing beads serve a solely decorative purpose and give any window a stylish finish.
If you are already a customer of Snows Timber, you will know that we have a strict timber purchasing policy, priding ourselves in being an environmentally responsible business. All of our products, including the ones discussed, are made from timber and wood products that have been sourced from sustainably managed forests, meaning our impact on the environment is minimised. So, when you buy from Snows you can rest assured that you’re working with a company looking to secure a future for everyone.
