Snows Timber have been supplying Merchants and Manufacturers of Timber and related products for the past 200 years. The company began as a small coal and wood merchant in Glastonbury back in the 1800’s, fast-forward to now and we import, process and distribute over 1000 timber products from 2 distribution centres across England and Wales. Our range includes CLS, Carcassing, PSE, Decking, Cladding, Flooring and many more timber products that will meet your requirements.

Our customers are at the centre of everything we do and we aim to deliver success together. We pride ourselves on building long-lasting relationships to ensure we provide a tailored service to meet a variety of needs. Our customers only need to contact our dedicated, central team who are on hand to offer high quality service, every time.

Product quality and development is high on our agenda, we are constantly adding new products to the range, and improving production capabilities to ensure market and customer demands are met. Our team of directors took ownership of Snows Timber in March 2019

Snows Timber is one of the top four timber companies in Britain, providing wholesale wood products to builders’ merchants, timber merchants, garden building and shed manufacturers, and to the joinery manufacturing and constructions sectors.

Ian joined Snows in April 2017 having previously held the position of Operations Director with Bradfords Building Supplies. Ian’s earlier career saw him working within the Travis Perkins Group where he was MD of TP Midlands, MD PTS & MD Group Trade Parks & Managed Services.

Craig joined Snows as Supply Chain and Logistics Director from Bis Henderson Consulting where he was Operations Director for 5 years. Prior to that he held senior positions in Supply Chain Operations & Planning for Wincanton and J Sainsbury.

Adam has extensive knowledge of the commercial and operational aspects of the Business. He is an ACCA qualified accountant and brings a strong understanding of the Kerridge ERP system. Prior to joining Snows he spent seven years in accounting practice with PwC.

Management Buy Out Announced

A Management Buy Out was confirmed on the 18th March 2019. Led by Ian Church, Managing Director, alongside Craig Willoughby, Supply Chain Director and Adam Cray, Finance Director. The new ownership of Snows marks the start of an exciting future.

Snows Timber sell Glastonbury Site

Snows sell their Glastonbury site to South West based Timber and Builders Merchant, Sydenhams. Their Head Office moves to Towcester, Northamptonshire and customers are serviced by the National Sales Team in Towcester and the Mansfield and Andover Distribution Centres.

Snows Timber win at the Logistics Leadership Awards 2018

Snows won the Innovation Award at the Logistics Leadership Awards 2018. The company also introduced 7 new trailers and 3 curtain sided trucks to the fleet.

Modernising Operations

The company streamlined operations, resulting in the closure of its Dudley Distribution Centre. A regeneration programme of circa. £0.5million began at the Mansfield Distribution Centre. This allows for increased capabilities across the picking and milling of product, alongside an increased stock holding.

May 2018

New National Sales Office

The business began a huge restructure program, beginning with the centralisation of its regional sales offices (based at each distribution centre) into one national sales office. A new team of 12 sales and customer service professionals began trading in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

April 2018 National Sales Team

Cutting Edge Planning System Introduced

Snows introduce a new routing system, Routyn. The state-of-the-art system ensured the business delivered the same volume of products with 25 per cent fewer vehicles covering 10 per cent fewer miles.

January 2018

Launch New Website and Brochure

Snows Timber launch a new website and brochure, including a revolutionary new way to order timber products. Snows are the first supplier in the UK to manage softwood stock by length making it easy to order.

July 2017

Senior Leadership Changes

Bob Kirkland, Craig Willoughby and Sandra Cheyne all joined Snows as Operations Director, Supply Chain and Logistics Director and Sales Director, respectively.


New Managing Director Appointed

Ian Church is appointed as Snows Timber's new Managing Director.


Snows join forces with Kerridge Commercial Systems

The company introduced a new ERP system provided by Kerridge Commercial Systems. K8 was launched into the business to improve processes and efficiencies.


Specialist timber

The company opened a specialist Timber department in 2012.


Trader of the Year!

Snows Timber won the TTJ Softwood Trader of the Year!


Purchase of W.J Hanrahan and Sons Limited

The company purchased W.J Hanrahan and Son Limited. Facilities were opened in Dudley and Mansfield to establish a timber importing and processing business. The business transformed from a timber merchant, into a national importer, processer and distributor of timber.


Award for Glastonbury

Snows Glastonbury awarded for reaching £1 million turnover.


Snows Acquired F. J. Reeves

Snows Timber acquired F.J. Reeves, another timber merchant, in Andover meaning they now had reach across the entire of the South of England.


Snows Timber Glastonbury Acquired

Snows Timber of Glastonbury was acquired in 1985. The combination of the specialist timber merchant along with the established builders merchant helped to strengthen the group.


A Restructure of the Group

The group restructured establishing separate trading companies of Bradfords Agriculture Limited, Bradfords Building Supplies Limited, Bradfords Coal Limited, Miller and Lilley Limited, and Burt and Sons Limited.


Going from Strength to Strength

The company continued to go from strength to strength during this time. With a substantial investment in an animal feed compounding mill and the addition of “light side” products in the builder’s merchant operation.

1960 - 1985

Post-World War Two

Philip, the son of Stanley Bradford, joined the board in 1936 and from this time until the Second World War there was a boom in the building and timber sections of the company.

1936 - 1939

Effects of the First World War

Tremendous changes occurred following the First World War, times proved difficult. However, the company weathered the storm, based principally on the distribution of coal and the servicing of the agricultural communities.


Timber Importing

Purchase of coal and corn Chandlers’ businesses in Bournemouth, Poole, Corfe castle, Bere Regis and Bridgwater, and subsequently a controlling interest in George Hooper & Company, a timber importing company. This was done to enable the group to have access to the timber imported.


The Beginning of Snows

Bradfords and Sons had been operational for 120 years at this point, but it was in 1893 the company became incorporated. Snows Timber trade in Glastonbury as a coal and wood merchant.
